Bangladesh PM for common peoples' participation in implementing development projects
BSS, Dhaka, 11 January: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged all concerned to create awareness among the people about the projects and programmes under taken by the government for their welfare and also encourage them to participate in the implementation process.
"Participation and cooperation of the cross section of people is very essential for smooth implementation of the development plans. Therefore, the people should be sensitized about the programmes we have already implemented also those undertaken for the future," she said.
The prime minister said this while inaugurating a three-day Unnayan Mela (Development Fair) through video conference from her Gonobhaban residence. "Our government has fixed a goal by chalking out specific plans for the country's development," she said.
"By 2021, we want to see Bangladesh as a poverty-free nation. The development fair has been organized to widen the people's participation through our efforts and help continue the pace of development in the country," she said.
Such fair is being organized for the third time in the country at District and upazila levels with an objective of showcasing the country's progress in the socio-economic areas and inform the people about the development initiatives of the present government to build Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.
The prime minister also exchanged views with cross-section of the people, beneficiaries of the safety-net programmes and the one house and one farm project, and the Freedom Fighters in Habiganj, Chandpur, Borguna, Jhinaidha and Gaibandha districts.
All 64 districts districts, upazila headquaretrs and union information centres of the country were linked with Gonobhaban during the video conference.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazley Rabbi Mia, among others, were present on the occasion.
Chief Coordinator of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) at the Prime Minister's Office Md Abul Kalam Azad gave the welcome address while Principal Secretary Md. Najibur Rahman conducted the programme.
An audio-video presentation on ten special initiatives of the present government was displayed at the beginning of the meeting.
Sheikh Hasina said her government wants to reach the benefits of independence to every house. So, the government has set out a plan keeping the villages at the center of its development plan.
Pointing out the five-year development plan and the ten-year perspective plan of her government, the prime minister said the people of Bangladesh has already started reaping the benefit of those plans.
Bangladesh would be poverty and hunger free nation, dreamt by Father of the Nation, as every people would have a house, access to electricity, education and proper healthcare to live as human beings, she said.
Sheikh Hasina said the multipurpose educational system has been introduced while the specialized universities have been set up to expand the educational facilities for the youths in different trades.
Besides, she said, steps have been undertaken to reach the technological facilities including digital technology to the hands of the people. Access to the digital world has made life and livelihood of the common people easier and more improved, she observed.
During the time, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the initiative of several district administrations for rehabilitating the beggars by creating a fund with their one-day salary. She assured them of giving assistance from the Prime Minister's Relief fund to their fund to make the initiative more successful.
The Prime Minister also asked the Deputy Commissioners to find out the homeless people in their areas cause by river erosion or other reasons and make their list, so that the government can build houses to rehabilitate them properly.
While talking to the people of Gaibandha, the prime minister announced her government's plan to resume the operation of ferry service across the Balashia-Bahaduarabad point from the next month to lessen sufferings of the people in the northern region.
Talking to the people of Chandpur district, the Prime Minister asked the concerned officials to take measures for proper protection of the Hilsha Fish.
She also asked the Barguna DC to take necessary measures to develop the parjatan industry in the potential areas of the district. ■ Photo: BSS
